Supporting Siblings: How Sibs can help families affected by MPS

Share:

When a child has an MPS or related condition, siblings often face complex emotions and extra responsibilities. While parents are often required to focus on treatment and care, brothers and sisters may feel overlooked, anxious or unsure of their role.

The MPS Society recognises how vital sibling support is. That’s why we want to spotlight Sibs - a charity offering free, practical resources for schools to help siblings feel seen and supported.

What schools can access at no cost

Primary, secondary and special schools can access leaflets, staff tips and Sibs Talk programmes with animations, worksheets and social stories designed to improve wellbeing and engagement.

Resources are easy to use, evidence-based and designed to build awareness and empathy among peers.

Why this matters for MPS families

  • Siblings need attention too - many juggle unseen pressures and might feel unable to voice their worries

  • Easy to use - no extra workload for schools

  • Evidence-based - improves wellbeing and school engagement

  • Builds empathy - animations and activities support peer understanding

How parents can help schools use these resources

Find the school resources here.

  • Share the parent/sibling leaflet and ask the school to display it

  • Encourage staff to download the free pack for their setting

  • Suggest Sibs Talk or Sibs Talk Lite as structured, evidence-based support

  • Watch the animations at home and open up conversations

  • Highlight Sibs training workshops, parent tips and YoungSibs service

At the MPS Society, we’re here for the whole family.

If you’d like help approaching your child’s school or simply want to talk about sibling wellbeing, please reach out.
