Benefits support and upcoming changes

Share:

We know that ongoing changes to the benefits system can feel unsettling and that many families are facing uncertainty as reforms are discussed and introduced over the coming years.

The MPS Society Support Team is here to support our community with understanding benefits information and helping to make sense of what changes may mean in practice.

While we are unable to provide means-tested benefits advice, we can help explain information clearly, talk through your situation and signpost you to specialist organisations where needed.

There are a number of planned and ongoing changes across the welfare system, including:

  • Updates to Universal Credit

  • Proposed reforms to disability-related assessments

  • Wider government reviews looking at how support is accessed and delivered

Some changes are confirmed, while others remain under consultation or review, which means the landscape continues to evolve.

We will continue to keep a close eye on all developments relating to benefits and welfare reform.

Where appropriate, we will also feed into consultations and national discussions to ensure that the voices and lived experiences of our members are represented.

We would also encourage families to explore the resources produced by Contact, who offer clear, accessible guidance and helpful videos explaining current and upcoming changes to the benefits system. These can be a useful way to stay informed and understand what may apply to your circumstances.

If you are finding it difficult to navigate any of this information or would simply like some support in understanding what it might mean for you, please do get in touch with our Support Team. We are here to help.
