Ian Bond releases debut album inspired by Sophie

Share:

Music has a unique way of telling stories and capturing emotions. For a while, musician and supporter of the MPS Society Ian, has been working on the release of his debut album Can we find the love? We are very lucky that he has decided that now is the time for the world to hear his music whilst raising funds and awareness for the MPS Society.

When we asked Ian what inspired his song writing, he immediately mentioned Sophie. Sophie, who had MPS III Sanfilippo, attended a special needs school where Ian's wife, Denise, worked. Through her role at the school, Denise supported Sophie and got to know her well.

"We live in a world in which there is so much emphasis on individualism and separation. It is so easy to despair about the state of the world and become cynical about life.  But just under the surface of our lives, if we listen carefully, we realise that everything is singing about love in one form or another.

These songs are my way of giving voice and melody to what I caught in the wind, which was deeply inspired by the life of Sophie and how she showed us how to love so purely.

Seers of souls

Seers of souls is one of the singles from the album which focuses on Sophie. It looks at how people can express their love in different ways. With Sophie who was non-verbal, it was very much in her eyes, facial expressions and eyebrows.

You knew exactly what she wanted simply from a look.

Preparing for the release

During September and October, Ian has been releasing a new single every week offering a preview of the album while introducing listeners to the songs and stories that inspired it. Can we find the love? will be available on Friday 23 October via Bandcamp with all the proceeds going to the MPS Society. Ian's teasers have included:

  • Show me a tree with straight lines

  • Weaving our own sunrise

  • Seers of souls (Sophie’s song)

  • Heart, show me the way

  • Mountains inside

With a guitar and harmonica in hand, Ian creates a strong link to nature which is embedded in the lyrics and to Sophie, who helped inspire his writing about love. Each song is beautifully written and deeply heartfelt.
